Washington and Oregon wildfires scorch thousands of acres, raze dozens of structures

The Chelan Hills Fire in Washington state has been reduced to 9,400 acres after initially expanding to 20,000 acres. The blaze has destroyed more than 100 structures, caused one fatality, and forced the evacuation of roughly 250 residents. Strong winds and red‑flag conditions accelerated the fire's spread, and authorities continue to assess damage and work on fire‑line reinforcement.

In Oregon, a smaller 3‑ to 3.5‑acre wildfire north of Elkton was fully contained after a rapid response by the Douglas Forest Protective Association and ODF Western Lane. Crews employed fixed‑wing aircraft, helicopters, dozers, and hand crews to establish control lines and conduct mop‑up operations, achieving 100% containment by the following night.
