Washington Capitals claim defenseman Jack St. Ivany off waivers

The Washington Capitals have claimed 27-year-old defenseman Jack St. Ivany off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets. The move provides depth to the Capitals' blueline following an emergency appendectomy for Vincent Desharnais, which is expected to sideline him for four to six weeks.

St. Ivany is a 6-foot-4, 197-pound right-shot defenseman who has appeared in 57 career NHL games, primarily with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has recorded nine career assists and is noted for his physical style, shot-blocking, and penalty-killing abilities. To accommodate St. Ivany on the roster, the Capitals have placed Logan Thompson on injured reserve.
