Washington Capitals face Buffalo Sabres amid roster and injury updates

The Washington Capitals prepare to host the Buffalo Sabres at Capital One Arena following an uneven start to the season. The Capitals currently hold a 5-4-0 record, while the Sabres sit at 4-4-2.

Head coach Spencer Carbery noted the team’s offensive strengths but highlighted significant defensive struggles, with the team ranking near the bottom of the league in expected goals against. To address roster needs, the Capitals have recalled goaltender Mitch Gibson from the Hershey Bears following a lower-body injury to Logan Thompson. Additionally, defenseman Vincent Desharnais has been placed on injured reserve after undergoing an appendectomy, sidelining him for four to six weeks.

The matchup features several storylines, including former Sabres player Alex Tuch facing his old team in Washington. Buffalo’s offense is led by Jack Quinn and Tage Thompson, while the team continues to rely on goaltenders Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Colten Ellis.
