Washington Capitals rookie Cole Hutson targets 30‑plus goals

Cole Hutson, a 20‑year‑old defenseman who signed an entry‑level contract with the Washington Capitals in March after two seasons at Boston University, is aiming to score 30‑plus goals in his first NHL season. In college he posted 70 points in 74 games and entered the NHL with 10 points in 14 games, sparking optimism that he could reach the 35‑goal mark.

Hutson recalled a memorable incident from the Capitals’ 4‑0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on April 8, when a toe‑drag turnover prompted alternate captain Tom Wilson to call him out after the game. He also reiterated his intention to finish his degree at Boston University, staying in touch with former teammates and planning to return to campus when his schedule permits.
