Washington Commanders defensive coordinator targets second-half lapses

Washington Commanders defensive coordinator Daronte Jones has identified a plan to address the team's tendency to struggle during the second half of games. Jones attributes the defensive decline to a lack of fundamental soundness and a need for players to remain calm and trust the process when momentum shifts. He emphasized the importance of rallying to make tackles on short gains and maintaining a composed mindset.

On the roster, rookie linebacker Sonny Styles has emerged as a standout performer. After being selected with the No. 7 overall pick, Styles has earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors and has recorded 33 tackles, a sack, an interception, and a forced fumble through five games. His performance has seen a significant increase in PFF grading, placing him among the top qualifying linebackers.

Additionally, wide receiver Antonio Williams has seen increased playing time due to injuries in the receiving corps, with his snap share rising to nearly 70% in recent games. Kicker Drew Stevens also remains a key part of the team's rookie group.
