Commanders and Giants tie 27-27 after overtime clock management error

The Washington Commanders and New York Giants played to a 27-27 tie following a chaotic overtime period marked by significant errors from both teams. The Giants initially held a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, but Jameis Winston led a comeback to force overtime.

In the extra period, the Giants nearly secured a win when running back Cam Skattebo fumbled, which was recovered by Washington. However, the Commanders failed to capitalize due to a critical clock-management error. With 12 seconds remaining and the ball at the Giants’ 24-yard line, quarterback Jayden Daniels scrambled for no gain instead of spiking the ball to stop the clock. Because Washington had no timeouts left, the remaining time expired before they could attempt a game-winning field goal.

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn and quarterback Jayden Daniels both took responsibility for the blunder. Quinn stated that the sequencing of the play was his responsibility, noting that the team should have prioritized stopping the clock earlier. Daniels also acknowledged the need for better situational awareness from the entire offense.
