Washington Commanders hire Steve Wilks as defensive consultant

The Washington Commanders have officially hired Steve Wilks as a part-time defensive consultant to assist head coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Daronte Jones with game planning. While Wilks will contribute to the planning process, he will not be present on game days, and the team's current play-caller will retain control of in-game decisions.

The move follows a 23-17 Monday night loss to the San Francisco 49ers, which dropped the Commanders to a 1-4-1 record. During the game, head coach Dan Quinn criticized quarterback Jayden Daniels for a fourth-down decision in the second quarter that resulted in a penalty. Despite the loss, Daniels completed 29 of 40 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns.
