Washington Commanders overhaul defense under new coordinator Daronte Jones

The Washington Commanders are implementing a new defensive identity under defensive coordinator Daronte Jones. Following a season where the unit ranked last in the NFL, Jones is installing an “attack style” system designed to keep offensive players off balance. The scheme utilizes various fronts with three, four, or five linemen and emphasizes elite communication and fundamental mastery.

Players such as Odafe Oweh and Leo Chenal have noted that the system focuses on thoroughness and creating one-on-one situations for pass rushers. To support this complex scheme, the team has added versatile, athletic players including K'Lavon Chaisson and linebacker Sonny Styles.

In other NFL news, Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland has returned to training camp following foot surgery performed in January. Bland reported feeling “full go” despite currently being limited to certain repetitions during camp.
