Washington Commanders revamp coaching staff and roster for 2026 season

The Washington Commanders finished the 2025 campaign with a 5‑12 record, prompting head coach Dan Quinn to overhaul the team ahead of his third year. Quinn dismissed offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and promoted quarterbacks coach David Blough to the role, while also bringing in former Vikings defensive passing‑game coordinator Daronte Jones as the new defensive coordinator. Jones is expected to install a scheme heavy on disguised blitzes and zone coverages, drawing on his experience under Mike Zimmer, Ed Donatell and Brian Flores.

In addition to coaching changes, the Commanders were active in free agency, signing running backs Jerome Ford and Chig Okonkwo, tight end Chig Okonkwo, and receivers Van Jefferson and Rachaad White. Quarterback Jayden Daniels, who missed much of 2025 with injuries, returned fully healthy and will see a greater share of snaps under center as the offense shifts toward more play‑action and heavier formations.
