Washington Commanders starters Luvu and Okonkwo ruled out against Cowboys

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has confirmed that linebacker Frankie Luvu and tight end Chig Okonkwo will be unable to play in the upcoming Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Luvu is sidelined with a groin injury, while Okonkwo is out due to a hamstring issue. Both players are among the highest-paid members of the Commanders roster. Luvu, playing under a three-year, $31 million contract, was a key contributor to the team's previous season performance.

With Luvu unavailable, the Commanders are expected to rely more heavily on rookie linebacker Leo Chenal to fill the defensive void. Chenal, a former first-round pick, will face increased responsibility in managing the defense against the Cowboys' offense.
