Washington Commanders unveil interior renderings of new $3.7B stadium

The Washington Commanders and architectural firm HKS have released the first interior renderings of the team’s planned $3.7 billion stadium in Washington, D.C. The design aims to honor the legacy of the team’s former home, RFK Stadium, by creating a loud and intense atmosphere.

Key features of the design include a continuous, unified seating bowl that rises from the field level to the top tier, intended to provide unobstructed sightlines. To maximize crowd noise, the stadium will utilize specific seating angles and a roof design intended to project sound back toward the field. The venue is expected to have upwards of 65,000 seats and is slated to open in 2030.

Architectural choices include an increased lower bowl capacity and a raised lower level to ensure clear views along the sidelines, avoiding the obstructions often caused by premium field-level club areas. Additionally, the stadium will feature a dynamic videoboard system consisting of two end zone boards, sideline boards, and a connecting halo that wraps around the interior bowl.
