Washington County hit by flash floods
Flash floods struck southern Washington County on Sunday morning following an intense rainstorm. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the county that remained in effect until 4 p.m.
Significant flooding was reported in the City of Washington, Claysville, Canton, and North Franklin Township. Washington & Jefferson College’s Cameron Stadium was inundated, with floodwater swamping the field and nearby Park Avenue. Several roads, including Henderson Avenue and North Henderson Avenue, faced closures due to several feet of water blocking the roadways.
County Director of Public Safety Gerald Coleman reported that while flooding was widespread, no casualties have been reported. This event follows previous intense storms in August and early September. Staff from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency are scheduled to assist with damage assessments.
