Washington, D.C. advocates push for youth involvement in justice policy
During Youth Justice Action Month in October, the Washington, D.C. Juvenile Justice Advisory Group called for a shift in how the city addresses challenges facing young people, particularly Black youth. Advocates are pushing for policies centered on mentorship, mental health services, employment opportunities, and community investment as alternatives to incarceration.
The nationwide campaign, themed ‘Building a Future Where Youth Thrive,’ aims to increase youth enfranchisement and ensure young people's voices are heard in the political processes that govern them. Similar efforts to reduce incarceration and improve youth outcomes are currently being pursued in Michigan, Washington, and Pennsylvania.
