Washington, D.C. announces major cultural and museum reopenings

Washington, D.C. is preparing for a series of significant cultural reopenings and new exhibitions. The Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden is scheduled to reopen on October 31, 2026, following a major renovation overseen by Japanese artist and architect Hiroshi Sugimoto. The redesigned 5,300-square-meter space will feature approximately 60 sculptures from the national collection, including works by Auguste Rodin, Henri Matisse, Henry Moore, and Barbara Hepworth.

The National Air and Space Museum is also nearing the completion of its extensive renovation. New exhibitions include ‘At Home in Space,’ launching October 30, 2026, and ‘Modern Military Aviation,’ opening November 11, 2026, which will showcase aircraft such as the North American F-86 Sabre and the Bell UH-1H ‘Huey’ helicopter.

Other notable cultural highlights include the ‘SUBMERGE Project’ at ARTECHOUSE DC, featuring digital art and AI-driven installations through the end of 2026, and the National Museum of Asian Art’s exhibition of Islamic art from the Musée du Louvre collection.
