Washington, D.C. data center event interrupted by protesters

Protesters interrupted ‘Data After Dark,’ a pro-data center event held at a Washington, D.C. bar, to voice opposition to the industry’s environmental impact. The demonstrators specifically targeted the industry’s water usage, with one individual shouting, ‘Thank you for using all of our water. You are killing the world.’

Four protesters reportedly took the stage during toasts and remarks. According to Young Voices CEO Casey Givens, one protester attempted to grab a microphone from co-host Jonas Du after being denied the chance to give a toast. Security personnel removed the individuals from the venue as the crowd responded by chanting ‘USA’ to drown out the disruptions.

The event, organized by Jonas Du, Ed Tarnowski, and Casey Givens, drew hundreds of attendees. Organizers stated the gathering was intended to celebrate the economic and technological benefits of data center infrastructure and to counter what they described as industry hysteria.
