Washington, D.C. man charged in infant's death and attempt to frame son

Demetrius Beatty, 40, has been charged with first-degree felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children following the death of 2-month-old Khamyah Honesty in Washington, D.C. Prosecutors allege that Beatty beat the infant to death in a jealous rage on August 16 while he was caring for five children alone.

According to arrest affidavits, Beatty attempted to frame his 6-year-old autistic, nonverbal son for the attack. In a 911 call, he claimed his son had attacked the baby, providing dispatchers with incorrect information regarding the apartment unit and the child's age. When police arrived at the New Jersey Avenue residence, they found Beatty holding the unresponsive infant. He reportedly told officers that he heard a thumping sound and found the baby face down on the floor.

The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, citing multiple blunt force injuries to the head, including a flattened nasal bridge. Following the incident, the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency removed the victim's twin sister and three other siblings from the home. Beatty is currently being held without bond.
