Washington DC man charged in fatal beating of 2-month-old baby

Demetrius Beatty, 40, has been charged with first-degree felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children following the death of 2-month-old Khamyah Honesty in Washington, D.C. The incident occurred on August 16.

According to court documents and authorities, Beatty allegedly killed the infant due to jealousy regarding the child's biological father. When police arrived at the residence on New Jersey Avenue, they found the baby unconscious with severe blunt force injuries, including multiple fractures and head trauma. An autopsy confirmed the injuries were fatal.

Prosecutors state that Beatty attempted to shift blame onto his 7-year-old autistic, nonverbal son during a 911 call, claiming the boy had attacked the infant. However, investigators noted that the severity of the injuries was inconsistent with being caused by a child. Additionally, court filings indicate that Beatty had allegedly threatened the infant's mother about the children's safety approximately one week prior to the incident.
