Washington, D.C. region faces severe storms and intense heat

The Washington, D.C. metropolitan area is facing a period of intense heat and humidity coupled with the threat of severe thunderstorms. Following severe weather earlier in the week, tens of thousands of power outages were reported across D.C., Maryland, and northern Virginia. The damage led to the closure of Prince George’s County Public Schools.

The primary concerns include damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain. While the heat and storm risks are expected to persist through Friday, conditions are projected to become more comfortable with cooler temperatures arriving for the Labor Day weekend.
