Washington D.C. region faces heavy rain and thunderstorm risks

The Washington D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia regions are expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms throughout Saturday. Forecasters warn that high humidity could fuel intense downpours, creating a risk of isolated flash flooding, particularly in areas south and east of the Interstate 95 corridor and the Eastern Shore.

Rainfall totals in some areas may reach 1 to 2 inches. While no official flood watches were in effect as of Saturday morning, St. Mary’s County is noted as potentially vulnerable due to recent heavy precipitation.

A cold front is projected to move through the region on Sunday morning, leading to drier and more comfortable conditions. Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-80s on Sunday, with lower humidity and mostly sunny skies continuing into early next week.
