Washington DC to deploy AI sensors for autonomous vehicle monitoring
Washington DC has selected AIWaysion to deploy roadside sensing technology designed to monitor the behavior of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in mixed urban traffic. Working with Parsons Corporation, the company will install Mobile Units for Sensing Traffic at two busy intersections starting in January. The system will utilize computer vision to track AV trajectories and provide the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) with independent data to supplement company-reported information.
Separately, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) released its inaugural Intelligent Cities Index, which analyzed 61 cities across 39 countries. The study highlights a gap between institutional AI readiness and actual service delivery, noting that cities with strong strategies often struggle to move projects from the planning phase to successful implementation.
