Washington DC unveils DC250 mural initiative ahead of 2026 semiquincentennial

Washington, D.C. announced the DC250 Mural Project, a program to commission eight permanent murals—one in each of the city’s wards—to mark the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026. The effort is overseen by the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music and Entertainment and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and it emphasizes community engagement, local artist participation, and long‑term public‑art installations that reflect each neighborhood’s history and culture.

In parallel, the District’s public‑library system is hosting the “American Pride” exhibition tour on July 15. The program offers a series of events at multiple libraries across the city, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, Northwest One, Bellevue, and others. Sessions range from talks and displays to virtual programs, with registration now closed. Both initiatives aim to celebrate local heritage and foster cultural participation among residents.
