Washington Governor establishes Space Council to boost aerospace economy

Washington Governor Bob Ferguson has signed an executive order establishing a 23-member Governor’s Space Council. The council is designed to advise the governor on maintaining the state's competitiveness in the aerospace industry and enhancing its position as a global leader in the space economy.

The group includes a diverse range of stakeholders, such as representatives from the commercial space industry, advanced manufacturing, higher education, labor, and elected officials. Notable members include Kent Mayor Dana Ralph, State Senator Claudia Kauffman, Stoke Space CEO Andy Lapsa, and Blue Origin Chief Commercial Officer Michael Edmonds.

A key objective for the council is to explore the development of Washington-based commercial launch capabilities. The state currently hosts more than 90 space companies that employ over 13,000 workers and generate approximately $4.6 billion in annual economic activity.
