Washington Heights street renamed for Leonardo A. Diloné Figueredo
A street intersection in Washington Heights has been renamed to honor Leonardo A. Diloné Figueredo, a 15-year-old of Dominican descent who passed away in March 2023. The intersection of 187th Street and Fort Washington Avenue now bears his name.
Sponsored by Council Member Carmen de la Rosa, the recognition celebrates Diloné’s impact on his community. He was a dedicated student and baseball player at PS 187, the Manhattan Center for Science & Math Rams, and Gregorio Luperón Institute. He was also known for his community service, including assisting elderly residents and participating in local cleanups.
Following his death, the community established several tributes, including a memorial bench in Fort Tryon Park, the retirement of his number 10 jersey, and the annual ‘LD is Love’ baseball tournament to provide a safe space for local youth.
