New York Mets finish 2026 season in last place in NL East

The New York Mets concluded their 2026 MLB season with a 74-88 record, finishing last in the NL East. This marks the franchise's first bottom-of-the-division finish since 2003 and their lowest win total since 2017.

In a season-ending press conference, Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns acknowledged the disappointment of missing the playoffs for a second consecutive year. Stearns noted that several organizational decisions created an “uncapped downside scenario,” citing roster inflexibility and the challenges of significant change within the New York market.

Despite the team's struggles, individual milestones were reached. Francisco Lindor hit his 300th career home run in the final game, becoming the only primary shortstop in MLB history to record 300 home runs and 200 stolen bases. Rookie pitcher Nolan McLean emerged as a key figure, maintaining a streak of making every scheduled start despite injuries to the rotation.

Looking ahead, Stearns emphasized the need to bolster the starting rotation and expressed confidence in the team's ability to develop homegrown pitching talent.
