Washington Nationals promote pitcher Luis Perales
The Washington Nationals have promoted 23-year-old right-handed pitcher Luis Perales from Triple-A Rochester. Perales, a Venezuelan prospect, was acquired by Washington from the Boston Red Sox last December in exchange for Jake Bennett.
Perales has demonstrated significant velocity throughout his development, with scouting reports noting a four-seam fastball capable of reaching 101.1 mph. During his time with the Rochester Red Wings this season, he recorded a 3.64 ERA over 96.1 innings, striking out 97 batters and maintaining a 47% groundball rate. While he possesses high-velocity tools and a diverse repertoire including a cutter and sinker, he has also faced challenges with command, recording a walk rate of over 13%.
This promotion marks Perales' first Major League call-up. The Nationals have utilized him both as a starter and in short relief stints recently to manage his workload.
