Washington overcomes slow start to defeat Utah State 16-14

No. 19 Washington secured a 16-14 victory over Utah State on Saturday, overcoming a slow start to improve to 2-0. Freshman Ansu Sanoe scored the Huskies’ only touchdown on a one-yard dive in the second quarter. Tyler Robles later added a 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to extend the lead.

Utah State quarterback Grady Brosterhous recorded 196 passing yards and 81 rushing yards, including a 7-yard touchdown pass to Eli Wood late in the fourth quarter. The Aggies (0-2) attempted a final drive in the closing seconds, but Washington secured the win with a goal-line interception as time expired.

Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. completed 26 of 41 passes for 249 yards and added 56 rushing yards. With this performance, Williams became the third quarterback in Washington history to reach 1,000 career rushing yards. Head coach Jedd Fisch noted that the team has significant areas to improve following two consecutive weeks of struggling.
