Washington Quaquá says Lulinha lives in precarious conditions in Spain

Washington Quaquá, the national vice‑president of Brazil’s Workers’ Party (PT) and mayor of Maricá, told reporters that Fábio Luís Lula da Silva – known as Lulinha, the president’s son – lives in “spartan, precarious” conditions in Spain and does not own a Ferrari or hold stakes in major companies. Quaquá said he has a “great relationship” with Lulinha and believes he is innocent.

Lulinha is the subject of three Federal Police inquiries into alleged influence‑peddling and corruption. Two investigations were authorized by Supreme Court minister André Mendonça and a third by minister Flávio Dino. The probes examine possible involvement in Ministry of Health negotiations over cannabis‑based medicines and alleged connections to lobbyist Antônio Carlos Camilo Antunes, the “Careca do INSS,” linked to a large social‑security fraud scheme. Lulinha’s lawyers have asked for access to the investigations, saying their client will cooperate fully.

President Luiz Inácio Lula has said that if his son is found guilty he will face the same legal consequences as any citizen, emphasizing that he will not use the presidency to shield him.
