Washington Spirit defeats Boston Legacy 2-1 to lead NWSL standings

Tara Rudd and Trinity Rodman each scored as the Washington Spirit beat the Boston Legacy 2-1 in their first meeting. Rudd’s header in the 25th minute ended a 273‑minute shutout streak for the Legacy, while Rodman netted her seventh goal in ten games shortly after. Boston’s lone goal came from Sammie Smith in the 88th minute.

The win moved the Spirit (9‑3‑3) to the top of the National Women’s Soccer League table, tying them on points with Gotham FC. The match was played at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and prompted coach Adrián González to make seven changes to the starting lineup for the next game.
