Washington State Patrol investigates car speeding on I-90 bike trail

The Washington State Patrol is investigating a dangerous incident involving a white compact vehicle that drove onto a restricted bike and pedestrian trail along Interstate 90. The incident occurred on the afternoon of September 10, with the vehicle traveling westbound on the bridge over Lake Washington, connecting Seattle and Bellevue.

Footage of the event, captured by a passenger on the Sound Transit 2 Line light rail, went viral on social media. Witnesses and investigators report the vehicle was traveling at freeway speeds or approximately 70 mph while on the path. Although one pedestrian was seen walking near the car while it was moving slowly, no injuries or crashes were reported.

The vehicle, which reportedly lacked a license plate, appears to have entered the trail on the Mercer Island side and exited near the Mount Baker area of Seattle. Authorities are asking the public for assistance in identifying the driver and are reviewing trail entrances and barriers with the Washington State Department of Transportation.
