Washington State University cleared to extend alcohol pilot program

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board has voted unanimously to extend the alcohol pilot program at Washington State University (WSU) football games for another season. The decision allows the university and its partner, Aramark, to continue selling beer and wine at home games at Gesa Field, subject to new safety and enforcement measures.

To address concerns from previous seasons—including underage drinking, fans bringing in outside alcohol, and the throwing of mini Fireball bottles onto the field—the program will implement several changes. The alcohol-free zone will be expanded from the student section to include the entire north grandstand and the adjacent concourse.

Additionally, the university and Aramark have committed to improving staff training regarding alcohol control and responsible sales. WSU police and enforcement staff will also increase monitoring at entry gates to prevent intoxicated individuals or unauthorized alcohol from entering the stadium.
