India cricket squad fitness updates ahead of Afghanistan T20I series

The Indian national cricket team faces significant squad adjustments ahead of the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in New Delhi, starting September 13.

Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar have both cleared fitness tests at the BCCI Centre of Excellence and are expected to join the squad. Reddy, recovering from a quadriceps injury, and Sundar, recovering from a hamstring issue, provide much-needed depth for the upcoming series and the subsequent Asian Games.

In contrast, fast bowler Harshit Rana is likely to miss the series and potentially the Asian Games after suffering a new injury during a match simulation session while undergoing rehabilitation for a hamstring strain.

Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been declared fit following a knee injury, but his participation in all three matches remains uncertain as management may choose to manage his workload ahead of the Asian Games. The series, while officially hosted by Afghanistan, will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, resulting in a reversal of standard home and away dressing room protocols.
