Washington Wildfire Near Lake Chelan Forces Evacuations as Red Flag Warning Issued

A wildfire that started just after midnight on July 4 spread to more than 400 acres in the Lake Chelan area of Douglas County, Washington. The Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office ordered Level 3 “Go Now” evacuations for residents and holiday travelers on Box Canyon Road, Heidi Lane, Combine Road and Jerrys Lane, and issued a Level 2 evacuation near Orondo.

At the same time, the National Weather Service in Spokane placed a Red Flag Warning over North Central Washington and the Columbia Basin for the Fourth of July weekend. Forecasts called for hot temperatures in the upper 80s‑low 90s, relative humidity of 13‑23 %, and gusty winds of 10‑20 mph with peaks up to 35 mph. The warning covered many communities, including Chelan, Wenatchee, Moses Lake and others, and highlighted an elevated risk of wildfire ignition, urging the public to avoid open flames and fireworks.

Authorities urged residents to comply with evacuation orders, adhere to fire restrictions, and remain prepared for possible changes in the fire’s behavior as conditions evolve.
