Spokane Complex Fire forces evacuations, damages hundreds of structures
The Spokane Complex Fire, comprising the Old Trails, Autumn Lane and Fairview blazes, has burned more than 10,000 acres on the northern fringe of Spokane, Washington. Containment stands at about 13 % for Old Trails and Autumn Lane and 5 % for Fairview, while firefighters continue aggressive mop‑up and line‑building.
Roughly 60,000‑67,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate, and nearly 850 structures have been damaged or destroyed. No deaths have been reported. About 1,500 firefighters from two dozen U.S. states, plus crews from Australia and New Zealand, are on the ground, working 16‑hour shifts. Drones entered the restricted airspace, temporarily grounding aerial crews.
Local resident Aaron Farinacci was arrested and charged with arson in connection with one of the three fires. Officials warn that hot, dry weather and strong winds could worsen conditions, keeping the fire a top national firefighting priority.
