Washington Wizards Delay Anthony Davis Extension Talks Until Season Starts
The Washington Wizards and Rich Paul, the agent for 10‑time NBA All‑Star Anthony Davis, have agreed to pause any contract extension discussions until after the regular season begins. Davis, who became eligible to sign a new deal worth up to four years and $275 million, will have the first 20 games of the season to assess his health, performance and the team's direction.
Both parties want to evaluate the Wizards' roster, including recent moves such as Trae Young’s four‑year, $212 million extension and the addition of Khris Middleton and Deandre Ayton. Davis missed the remainder of the 2025‑26 season with a hand injury and has not yet played a game for Washington. The delay also keeps him trade‑eligible while the franchise monitors whether it can become a contender after years of losing records.
