Wasim Jaffer applies for BCCI senior men's selector role

Former Indian opening batsman Wasim Jaffer has officially applied for a vacant position on the BCCI senior men's selection committee. The vacancy follows the conclusion of Ajit Agarkar's tenure as chief selector.

Jaffer, who played 31 Tests for India, is a strong contender for the role of chairman. According to the BCCI constitution, the selector with the most Test appearances among the five members becomes the chairman. If selected, Jaffer's 31 Test caps would surpass the 24 Test appearances of current interim chairman Pragyan Ojha.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), consisting of Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjpe, is responsible for interviewing candidates. Other individuals reportedly interviewed for the role include Ramesh Powar, Salil Ankola, Jacob Martin, and Connor Williams. Jaffer is noted for his prolific domestic career, holding records for the most runs and centuries in Ranji Trophy history.
