Waspik house fire under investigation for possible arson

A house fire broke out in Waspik on the Laan van Ravenschot around 02:30 on the night of Friday, October 16, to Saturday, October 17. The fire originated in the front hallway while the resident was inside the home.

Local residents responded after hearing a fire alarm and began extinguishing the flames before the fire department arrived. One neighbor who assisted inhaled smoke but did not require hospital transport after being treated by paramedics on-site. The fire caused significant damage to the hallway and widespread smoke damage, leaving the resident unable to stay in the home for several days.

Police are investigating the possibility of arson. While the exact cause remains unknown, neighbors reported that the resident had been causing local disturbances and noted a previous incident where a cargo bike was damaged by fire. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the blaze.
