Waspik marina dam wall repair delayed despite allocated funds

The local party Lokaal Belang has submitted written questions to the municipal executive of Waspik concerning the repair of the damaged dam wall at the Scharloo marina. The wall was severely damaged during a storm in June 2026, and the council allocated a €1.6 million credit on 11 September 2025 for its restoration, stating that work should start immediately because of collapse risk. Almost eleven months later, no contractor has begun the repairs.

Lokaal Belang is asking why the execution has been postponed, whether the procurement without a regular tender could increase costs, and why the municipality has not communicated clearly with the Watersportvereniging Waalwijk. The party notes that several emails about the dam wall, the lease contract and expansion plans have gone unanswered and that verbal agreements were never documented. It requests a fixed contact point for the association and seeks clarification on the future of the marina, whose lease runs until 2030, as well as plans for additional parking and possible camper spaces on nearby municipal land.
