German water polo champions Waspo 98 Hannover have been drawn into a challenging group for the Champions League. Their opponents include the two-time Champions League winners Olympiakos Piraeus, as well as Jadran Herceg Novi and CN Sabadell.

Waspo previously faced CN Sabadell in the last season, winning both matches. The Champions League preliminary round is scheduled to begin on October 6/7, with six matchdays running through mid-December. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second group stage.
