Waste collection services face disruptions in Peru and Argentina

Municipalities in La Banda de Shilcayo, Peru, and Córdoba, Argentina, are facing challenges with waste collection services.

In La Banda de Shilcayo, significant amounts of solid waste have accumulated in streets and public spaces, accompanied by the collapse of the municipal landfill. Local environmental management officials attributed the crisis to administrative issues and a daily waste volume of approximately 42 tons that exceeds current capacity. Mayor Enrique Hildebrandt Pinedo recently resumed duties and is assessing the situation following changes in municipal personnel.

In Córdoba, delays in waste collection have resulted in piles of refuse in several central sectors. The municipality reported that the service was disrupted by issues at the Piedras Blancas site, leading to overloaded trucks and incomplete routes. The Secretary of Environment and Circular Economy stated that three service companies have reinforced their routes to normalize operations and clear the accumulated waste.
