Waste import regulations in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The transboundary transport of waste in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is governed by the Law on Waste Management and the Basel Convention. While the import of hazardous waste is strictly prohibited in Bosnia and Herzegovina, certain types of non-hazardous waste may be imported under specific conditions and permits.

One significant category is RDF/SRF (Refuse-Derived Fuel/Solid Recovered Fuel), which is classified as combustible waste. This material is not raw municipal waste; rather, it is processed material that has undergone selection and treatment in specialized facilities to ensure controlled characteristics for use as alternative industrial fuel. Currently, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism identifies Lukavac Cement d. o. o. Lukavac and Heidelberg Materials Cement BiH d. d. Poop as entities authorized for the use of such alternative fuels.
