Waste management consortia discuss EPR models at RemTech Expo
At the RemTech Expo in Ferrara, various Italian waste management consortia gathered to discuss the evolution of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) models and the challenges of the circular economy. Participating organizations included Conai, Conoe, Conou, the Battery and Accumulator Coordination, the WEEE Coordination Center, Ecopneus, and RenOils.
Riccardo Piunti, president of Conou, noted that while different types of waste require specific management models, there is a common drive among the various consortia to improve waste recovery and management. He emphasized the importance of shared EPR elements, such as guidance functions and the definition of quality standards.
Piunti highlighted the success of the used mineral oils sector, attributing its global leadership to the existence of a single, independent consortium. He compared the role of such an entity to a traffic warden, responsible for setting quality standards and ensuring compliance within the industry.
