Waste management debates and recycling contamination issues

In Uruguay, the Departmental Board is considering an executive initiative to tender waste collection services and landfill management for a 12-year period. This proposal has sparked a debate regarding the role of the state versus private management of essential public services.

In Chile, the Directorate of Environment, Cleaning, and Ornamentation has issued a warning regarding the misuse of recycling containers. Authorities reported finding hazardous items such as syringes and needles, as well as organic waste and used toilet paper, within recycling bags. These contaminants pose occupational risks to workers and compromise the quality of recyclable materials managed by ReSimple.
