Waste management initiatives expand in Ilhéus and São Paulo

Waste management initiatives are expanding in Brazil, with specific developments in Ilhéus and São Paulo. In Ilhéus, the 'Cata-Treco' operation is conducting scheduled collections of large furniture and appliances in the Nelson Costa neighborhood to prevent irregular dumping in streets and public spaces. The service is scheduled to rotate through various neighborhoods, including Savóia, Iguape, and Olivença, throughout August.

In São Paulo, the Carolina Maria de Jesus Mechanized Sorting Center (CMT) is marking 12 years of operation. Managed by Ecourbis Ambiental, the facility processes up to 250 tons of recyclable material daily using optical and ballistic sensors. The center is currently undergoing a technological retrofit to optimize processing, which includes adding a glass sorting line and a system to convert waste rejects into Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF).
