Waste management initiatives launched in Formentera and O Morrazo
In Formentera, the Consell de Formentera has opened a public consultation period running until November 11 to develop regulations for construction and demolition waste. The initiative aims to establish a regulatory framework for waste collection, reception, and management, including the operation of a temporary facility in Es Cap de Barbaria with an annual capacity of 15,000 tons. This move seeks to address long-standing issues with debris accumulation in the area while a permanent plant is developed.
In the O Morrazo region, the Mancomunidade do Morrazo is nearing the final stages of awarding a new urban waste management contract for Bueu, Cangas, and Moaña. On October 29, the contracting board will reveal the scores for candidates Urbaser and FCC and open their economic offers. The contract, valued at 43.7 million euros over ten years, covers the collection and transport of all waste fractions, including organic waste, as well as the management of recycling centers and the A Portela environmental complex.
