Poland waste management: New collection systems and regulations

Various municipalities in Poland are implementing changes to waste management systems and regulations. In the Leszczyński Region, the Komunalny Związek Gmin is introducing a two-shift collection system via RCGO reSort, with pickups occurring between 6:00 and 21:00.

In Mrągowo, a pilot program for separate kitchen waste collection is underway, with full implementation expected by January 1, 2027. This initiative includes providing free 80-liter brown bins to single-family homes to facilitate the production of biogas in Olsztyn. Meanwhile, in Kraków, officials are reviewing regulations regarding septic tank emptying to address concerns from allotment gardeners who face mandatory biannual services regardless of seasonal usage.

Nationwide, legal limits for waste collection fees in 2026 have been set, with maximum rates for selective collection capped at 63.34 PLN per resident. Additionally, many municipalities are organizing mobile collection tours for bulky waste and electronics to provide residents with easier alternatives to visiting local waste collection points (PSZOK).
