Waste management requires integrated sorting and circular economy solutions

Effective waste management requires an integrated system that begins with sorting at the source to prevent contamination and ensure efficient recycling. Utilizing color-coded bins for organic, inorganic, and hazardous waste helps streamline the process for households, offices, and industrial facilities.

Environmental experts emphasize that waste-to-energy (PSEL) technologies should function as a complement to a circular economy rather than a replacement for it. Mohamad Bijaksana Junerosano, Founder and CEO of Waste4Change, suggests that PSEL should ideally handle only the 30–40 percent of waste that remains as residue after organic and inorganic materials have been processed through recycling or composting.

Failure to maintain the entire chain—from reduction and sorting to residue processing—results in excessive burdens on landfills. A successful system must integrate waste banks, recycling businesses, and residue processing to support a sustainable ecosystem.
