Italy implements various municipal waste management updates

Various municipalities across Italy are implementing significant changes to their waste management and recycling systems. In Lecco, construction is beginning on a new 250-square-meter Reuse Center designed to facilitate the recovery of used goods and reduce landfill waste. The project, costing approximately 1.4 million euros, utilizes a stilt structure to protect contaminated soil.

Several regions are transitioning to new collection models. Belvedere Marittimo has completed its expansion of door-to-door collection, removing street bins to improve cleanliness. In Misano Adriatico, Hera is replacing over 100 street bins with new technology requiring a ‘Carta Smeraldo’ for access. Conversely, Selvazzano is moving away from door-to-door organic waste collection in favor of 24/7 accessible street bins, a move expected to reduce waste tariffs.

Other updates include the expansion of door-to-door services in Crotone and specific urban areas near Via Giovanni Paolo II. In Ascoli, PNRR funding is driving the mechanization of waste collection through smart modules and ecological islands. Meanwhile, in Florence, service adjustments are being made in the historic center due to sidewalk renovations, and in Casale Monferrato, local police have identified a suspect for illegal waste dumping in an industrial zone.
