Waste management updates in Asso and Foggia

Municipalities in Italy are implementing new waste management systems, facing varying degrees of success and public response. In Asso, Mayor Mirko Donadini Pina has introduced new narrow-mouth bins designed to discourage improper use, such as domestic waste disposal, while accommodating small items like bottles and cigarette butts. These larger 55-65 liter containers also feature stainless steel ashtrays. The administration plans to use local police and security cameras to monitor and sanction those caught abandoning waste.

In contrast, Foggia is experiencing significant public dissatisfaction following the introduction of smart waste containers. Amiu has received over 600 reports regarding overflowing bins, abandoned bags, broken glass on sidewalks, and sightings of rodents near collection points. Residents have criticized the insufficient number of containers, narrow openings, and inadequate emptying schedules. In response, the municipal administration has announced the arrival of 25 new ecological islands by November to bolster the service.
