Waste management updates in French communities

The Communauté de communes des Coëvrons will simplify its waste sorting instructions starting November 1, 2026. The current three-color container system—yellow for plastic, metal, and food cartons; blue for paper and cardboard; and green for glass—will be reduced to two colors. Under the new system, yellow containers will accept paper, plastic, metal, food cartons, and cardboard, while green containers will remain dedicated to glass.

This change follows improvements at the local waste sorting center, which now allow for more efficient processing of mixed paper and packaging. The simplification aims to facilitate sorting for residents, harmonize instructions with neighboring communities, and reduce collection costs.

In the Pouilly-Bligny community, recent data from September 2026 shows a waste refusal rate of 17%, an improvement from 19% in March 2026. This rate is determined through a characterization process where samples are manually sorted to identify improperly sorted materials. High refusal rates can lead to increased treatment costs and financial penalties for the local authority, potentially impacting household waste collection taxes.
