Waste sorting practices in the Czech Republic

Waste sorting in the Czech Republic extends beyond the household to outdoor activities such as hiking, sports events, and festivals. Approximately three-quarters of the population regularly engage in waste separation at home, using color-coded containers for paper, plastic, and glass.

Properly sorted waste serves as a secondary raw material for new products. For example, recycled paper can be used for thermal insulation, and paper fibers can be recycled five to seven times on average. Plastics can be repurposed into clothing. Modern sorting lines utilize automated technologies, including optical sensors, to distinguish and separate different materials to ensure they can be effectively reused.
